When I Was A Boy

When I was a boy
Solace was where
The music played.
Secure in my room
The music hid me
From the rod in hand
From the reel of mouth.
The music transported me
To a place where no abuse allowed.
Where maternal hypocrisy was
Replaced by romantic love.
A space where people needed people
That somehow made them lucky
To be people.
Unlike me
When I was a boy.
